Privacy policy

The short version

  • We store what you enter: your classes, the student names you type in, attendance, assignments and submissions, marks and comments.
  • It is shown only to you and the co-teachers you add. We never sell it and there is no advertising.
  • You can export everything, and you can have your account and its data deleted by asking.

1. Who is responsible

WritingWorlds for Teachers is run by WritingWorlds LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. For your own account details we decide how data is used, so we are the controller. For the details you enter about your students, you (or your school) decide why they are recorded, and we store and process them on your instructions, so there we act as a processor. Questions about any of this go through the Help page inside the app.

2. What we store

About you

  • Your name and email address, and which sign-in method you use (Google, Microsoft, or a magic link). We do not store a password; sign-in is handled by those providers or by the one-time link we email you.
  • Your plan, its billing period, and whether payment has succeeded. Card numbers are held by our payment provider, never by us.
  • The emails we send you (verification links, receipts, notices about your plan) and whether they were delivered.

About your classes

  • Class names and the rosters inside them: the student names you enter, and any student email addresses you choose to add.
  • Attendance marks for each student and day.
  • Assignments, their due dates, and the submissions that come in through a submission link: the student's name as they typed it and the work they submitted.
  • The marks and comments you write.
  • Which curriculum standards you have aligned a lesson or assignment to, and the coverage calculated from that.
  • Calendar entries, and the documents you export (generated on request and not kept).
  • The co-teachers you add to a class, and the invite links you create.

Technical records

  • Server logs with the IP address, browser type and time of each request, kept for security and troubleshooting.
  • Error reports from the app when something goes wrong, which may include the page you were on and your account identifier, but not the content of your classes.

3. Where it is stored

Your data is stored in a managed database and on application servers located in [hosting region, to confirm]. The companies that host and support the service on our behalf are listed below. Each one holds only what it needs for its job.

ProviderWhat it does for us
SupabaseDatabase and sign-in
RailwayRuns the application servers
CloudflareServes this website and protects the service from attacks
ResendSends our emails (magic links, receipts, notices)
StripeTakes card payments and holds card details
SentryCollects error reports from the app
Google, MicrosoftSign-in, if you choose to use your account there; they only confirm who you are

4. How long we keep it

  • Everything in your account: for as long as the account is open.
  • After you delete your account, or ask us to: removed from the live database within 30 days, and from backups within a further 30 days.
  • Server logs and error reports: 30 days.
  • Billing records: as long as tax law requires, usually seven years, and only the details the law requires.

5. Deleting your data

You can delete individual students, classes, assignments and submissions yourself inside the app. To delete your whole account and everything in it, use the delete option in your account settings, or ask through the Help page inside the app from the address on the account. We confirm by email when it is done. Export anything you want to keep first; deletion cannot be undone.

If a student or a parent asks you to remove a student's details, you can do that in the app at any time. If they ask us directly, we will pass the request to the teacher whose account holds the data and help make sure it is carried out.

7. Students

Students do not create accounts. When a student opens a submission link, the service records the name they type and the work they hand in, and shows them to the teacher who set the assignment. When a student uses a class invite link, the service records the name they enter on the roster. We do not collect anything else from students, and we do not contact them.

Teachers are responsible for using the service in line with their school's rules on student data and with the law that applies to them, including any rules about the age of the students involved.

8. Cookies and this website

The app sets a cookie that keeps you signed in, and a cookie that remembers your preferences, such as the billing period you last looked at on the pricing page. Neither is used for advertising or for tracking you across other sites.

This marketing website has no analytics and sets no cookies of its own. It loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google's servers see your IP address when the fonts are fetched; Google's own privacy policy applies to that request.

9. Your rights

You can see, correct, export and delete the data in your account at any time inside the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask us what we hold about you, to object to certain uses, or to complain to a data-protection authority. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days.

10. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email account holders before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.

11. Contact

Use the Help page inside the app, or see the contact page.
